Message from the SSPUSA Chairman and Hiram’s Haul PRO.
I apologize if this finds you in difficulties or worse, due to Irma visiting Florida. We need to reset after so much trauma to life as we know it. But God is still there and life will go on for most of us. My hope is that all fared well, or can be repaired.
We are closing in on final plans for Hiram’s Haul with decisions to be made. Pennants and T shirts are ordered, both of which can be used next year if we do not go this year. We have 8 registrations on hand and 3 more boats indicated attendance before Irma. What is needed now, is for you to confirm your attendance again and more registrations submitted. We need 12 boats to pay our costs to run the race. Hiram’s is still there and the river is navigable. The park is functional at both locations, though not sure about safety of piers. All can be managed and re-arranged for the race. Please respond with your intent to race.
If you have not heard, The Islander Resort in Islamorada did not fare so well. At least 60% of all rooms were damaged. Clean up has started. Dennis water sports at the Islander Resort was literally destroyed. He and a lot of help are working to recover. We will wait about for decisions about the Rick White Memorial Steeple Chase, but hope is alive.
We look forward to great sailing opportunities once again.
We wish all well and great sailing with fallowing seas,
Warren G Green
