The legendary Worrell 1000 catamaran race from Fort Lauderdale to Virginia Beach will return, May 2019!

We now have the Notice of Race with boat classes (Nacra Carbon 20 and F18) and beach start locations for the 2019 Worrell 1000. What do you think of the course? Can you do it?

Twelve days of racing, five days up Florida then an off-day on Tybee Island before heading for South Carolina and the finish in Virginia Beach over seven more days.

See the Notice of Race, course list, and join the discussion on the new improved Catsailor Forum here.

Can you post some of rules regarding what spares will be allowed such as sails, boards, entire boat. Crew changes. Will custom cut or reefing sails be allowed. How will all this be controlled. These are some of the questions coming up.

Since this is a reunion I also suggest that when you reach Va Beach you honor those who sailed this race in years past such as Ron Anthony, Mike Worrell, Neal Brock and others. As the boat man for Team Virginia and others it is time we all get together and tell the hardships of the ground crews who had to go check point to other check points to make sure the BEER was good enough to drink. Looking forward to seeing all in Va Beach.

Well they are off again but you had better watch the Aussies as they have just come off their sailing season and are reall good at this race. I saw that Bobby Goforth has talked about team Belk (we called Team Bulk) with his crew Rock Bell. They had fun at this race. I cooked many meals for the teams and drank many Fosters Oil Cans on the beach and had a lot of fun meeting the many teams and Hobie and his Scotch, Chuck Thompson
